The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Allen F. Blocher Planetarium is gearing up to host a series of captivating shows in May, as announced on April 22, 2024.

On Sunday, May 5, visitors can indulge in a special-youth focused program at 3 p.m., featuring story time followed by a show. The planetarium will be showcasing three unique programs throughout the month, all open to the public free of charge, with donations welcomed to support ongoing programs.

Narrating the "Mars Quest" show on May 5 at 2 p.m. will be the renowned actor Patrick Stewart. Attendees can expect an exploration of Mars from its earliest history to the future of the first landing. Following this at 3:30 p.m., the audience can delve into the enchanting tale of "Magic Globe," where a young girl stumbles upon a mysterious piece of astronomical equipment at her grandpa's house.

The lineup concludes on May 12 at 2 p.m. with "Imagine the Moon," a show that delves into the Moon's significance as a beacon of discovery, space travel, and Earth's companion in the sky.

Seating at the planetarium is on a first-come, first-served basis for up to 55 individuals. Groups of eight or more can arrange special showings by contacting 715-346-2208 or submitting an online request form, although charges may apply for these bookings.

The planetarium is situated on the second floor of the UW-Stevens Point Science Building at 2001 Fourth Ave., Stevens Point. Parking is conveniently available in Lot D behind the building, with free parking offered in all university lots after 7 p.m. and on weekends.

For astronomy enthusiasts, stargazing sessions are available on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights, subject to weather conditions, at either the Arthur J. Pejsa Observatory or on Colman Field. Clear skies and temperatures above 15 degrees Fahrenheit are prerequisites for the viewings. Regular updates on weather status can be found on the department's website.
