WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Tom Tiffany (WI-07) has sent a follow-up letter to Bojana Zoric Martinez, the Director of the Bureau of Refugee Programs, urging for transparency and public input regarding refugee resettlement plans in the Chippewa Valley. Tiffany's letter comes after not receiving a response to his initial letter sent in January, where he requested public dialogue on this important issue.
Tiffany emphasizes the need for openness and clarity in the resettlement plans, stating, "As the state's refugee coordinator, you have a duty to be as forthright as possible about any resettlement plans that are currently being contemplated." He further argues that providing opportunities for public input is crucial in understanding the level of public support for resettlement and the potential impacts and challenges it may pose for existing residents and support systems.
The lack of public notification and transparency surrounding refugee resettlement has already sparked controversy and public backlash. Tiffany asserts that without proper information, Wisconsinites will continue to feel voiceless in these decisions. He states, "The public has a right to know if their town or county will be the next one targeted for refugee resettlement, how the increased burden on taxpayers will be addressed, and how an influx of foreign newcomers will impact their local budgets and quality of life."
To address these concerns, Tiffany urges the Bureau of Refugee Programs to hold public forums, allowing residents in the Chippewa Valley to express their opinions and concerns. He believes that this open dialogue will provide a clearer understanding of the level of public support and the potential challenges that may arise with refugee resettlement.

This call for transparency and public input highlights the importance of involving the community in decisions that directly affect them. By allowing residents to have a say in refugee resettlement plans, it ensures that their voices are heard and their concerns are addressed.
