Wisconsin State Representative Tom Tiffany has asserted that the trial of former President Donald Trump, currently underway in New York, is a flagrant attempt at election interference. He further stated that Democrats seem reluctant to allow the American people to exercise their democratic rights by determining election outcomes through voting.

"The Trump trial in NY is blatant election interference," said U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-Wi), according to X. "Why are Democrats too scared to let the American people decide our elections at the ballot box?"

The first of Trump's four criminal trials commenced on April 15th, following a decision by a Manhattan judge. The Associated Press reports that the trial focuses on allegations regarding hush money payments made during Trump's 2016 campaign to suppress accusations of marital infidelity. Delays have arisen due to objections from Trump's legal team concerning the substantial amount of evidence sourced from a previous federal investigation.

In this ongoing trial, attorneys have selected 12 jurors who will assess Trump's guilt or innocence in a case related to a hush-money payment made to an adult film actress. Both defense and prosecution teams are yet to choose alternate jurors for the trial, which represents the first instance of a former U.S. president being tried as a defendant. Reuters reports that approximately half of the initial 196 jurors screened in predominantly Democratic Manhattan were dismissed after confessing they could not impartially evaluate the evidence.

Tiffany, who represents Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District, was elected in May 2020 during a special election. Born and raised in the district on a dairy farm near Elmwood, Wisconsin, Tiffany holds an agricultural economics degree from the University of Wisconsin – River Falls. Prior to his tenure in Congress, Tiffany served in both the Wisconsin State Assembly and State Senate where he focused on tax reduction, job creation, and protecting 2nd Amendment rights according to his biography provided by the House.
